Dry Shampoos

Giovanni - 2 in 1 Power Shampoo & Instant Volumizer

Giovanni’s slogan is “eco chic hair care”. It is the first natural dry shampoo I have found that actually works!

This brand was started by a hairstylist who was looking for products that wouldn’t cause a reaction to his skin while he was working on his clients. He wasn’t able to find anything, so - he made his own brand!

One side note to mention - this dry shampoo does not soak up the oils in your hair instantly, so for a more effective clean I suggest putting it on your roots at night, letting it soak up the oils while you sleep, and then brushing it out the next morning. 

If you just want to use it as a volumizer, you can use it the morning of and it works very well!

Acure - Dry Shampoo in Rosemary & Peppermint 

Acure is another one of my go-to dry shampoo brands. It absorbs quickly, so unlike the Giovanni dry shampoo you can apply this right before you leave the house. It's also very buildable, so I often apply a few layers depending on how much I need on a given day. The scent is very light, a far cry from the nose-irritating aerosol dry shampoos (thank goodness!).

This dry shampoo is good for all hair types, but if you have darker hair you'll want to make sure it's fully absorbed and brushed out to avoid any white patches. Better yet, they also have a dry shampoo made specifically for brunette to dark hair!

The packaging is recyclable, and all of Acure's manufacturing facilities are independently audited to assess their levels of social responsibility. All of their audits are available on their website, which I think is pretty cool. It's a level of transparency you don't see from many companies nowadays, so I appreciate that extra effort.

Desert Essence - Shampoo in Coconut

This shampoo is my go-to, no-nonsense, everyday purchase. I can buy Desert Essence products at my local grocery store (Save-On-Foods in Vancouver, BC, Canada) at such an affordable price! This shampoo is cleansing, but also very gentle on my coloured hair (yes, it's colour safe!). Unlike other brands I've tried, this shampoo doesn't feel like it's stripping my hair of all remaining moisture, or like it's leaving a film on my scalp. It nourishes my hair and keeps it feeling healthy. You only need the smallest bit to lather up your whole head, so the average bottle lasts quite a while.

The packaging is recyclable, and the formula is biodegradable. All of the ingredients are from renewable sources as well, so you can feel good while getting squeaky clean! While it does indicate 'Fragrance' on the ingredients listing, they also note that this ingredient is made up of essential oils and blends of plant extracts - so no worries!

Graydon - Hair Smoothie Conditioner & Detangler

This is the HOLY GRAIL of conditioners - no joke!! I've moved up to buying 1 litre at a time because I can't fathom going back to the old conditioners that I used to use.

This baby will detangle any knot you can throw at it. As someone with thin, silky hair that tangles the second you're done brushing it, this conditioner has made my hair care routine tangle-free. It also contains herbs that give it a light, neutral scent that both myself and my spouse like.

The litre size also lasts for ages, so I'm purchasing only about once a year. All of that makes this conditioner worth the price! To me at least - to each their own! Stay tuned for more budget-friendly options being added here soon...
