The Green Root - Bamboo Toothbrushes
This is only one of many brands of bamboo toothbrushes available today. Switching from a plastic to a bamboo toothbrush is a simple, easy change that can have a huge impact on the environment!
This particular toothbrush from The Green Root has a handle made of bamboo that is coated with a natural wax. Bamboo is naturally antimicrobial, and the wax ensures that the handle is water- and mold-resistant. This handle can be composted once your toothbrush reaches the end of its life. The bristles are made out of castor oil and nylon, which can be plucked from your toothbrush and recycled. Even if you end up throwing these out, the environmental impact of the thrown out bristles vs. an entire plastic toothbrush (plus plastic packaging) every 3 months is still a great improvement. Lastly of course, the packaging it comes in is plastic-free and compostable.
I bought these in a pack of 4 on Amazon.ca, but they also have the option to buy in bulk on their website. They come with numbers engraved on the handle, so you're always able to distinguish yours from a family members. I've also been known to mark mine with a shade of liquid lipstick if I feel so inclined! They have a simple design, but I find the curved handle of The Green Root's brushes more comfortable than other brands that I have tried. They come with soft bristles, which I prefer, and my spouse who would generally get bristles a little firmer doesn't mind these either. No matter your preference, they are worth a try, and if you don't like this particular brand you've got lots to choose from!

Toothpaste

This toothpaste is personally one of my favourite flavours, but if it sounds strange to you click here to check out Jason's website and see what other kinds they have.
This toothpaste lathers so much when you’re using it that you really don’t need much, resulting in a tube that really goes far and lasts a decent amount of time. I've also found that it's available in most grocery and drug stores, making it an easy switch!
$5.99 / 4.2 oz
